Juniors
It is a major aim of the Group to assist and encourage the
playing of Chess by juniors. To this end the Group;-
a) Runs a Junior Chess Club, in a dedicated and separate area
of its meeting room, on most Mondays 7pm to 8.30pm. This club is completely
free. Full tuition from basics, based on a computer tutorial, given. This
club is being run, taking all the recommendations given within the guidance
notes and child protection policy as issued by the English Chess Federation,
into consideration. (Copies available to parents if required) This includes
adequate toilets, no smoking and alcohol free area, space for non-playing
parents to wait and supervision by at least one adult at all times. (Juniors
are welcome to attend on Match Days providing they agree to play quietly
when a match is in progress.)
b) A School Holiday Club was run from Friday 4th August 2pm
to 4pm for five weeks. It is due to the relative success of this club, which
had nine juniors attending, that the more formal and regular Junior Chess
Club on Monday evening has been started. Ways, means and venues where this
School Holidays Club can be continued are being investigated by the group
(see news for details ). If you run a Church, Youth,
Sports or any other club for juniors and you would like your venue (must have
public liability insurance) to host this event then please get in touch with
the organiser (see contacts).
c) Schools Chess - The group is very keen to see chess played in every school
in Lowestoft and North Suffolk and will support any Head Master, Teacher,
School helper, Government official, etc. and pledges its support when and
where it can to make this successful. Guidance to any person interested in
this activity is available from English
Chess Federation
